There are two different designs of auto bypass valves, which are direct-acting spring-loaded valves and diaphragm valves.

Direct-acting auto bypass valves are valves in which the measuring element acts on the regulating element (valve) without additional energy sources, using the energy of the controlled medium (water).

Spring-loaded auto bypass valve maintains pressure with lower accuracy, has a simple design, lower cost, and less sensitivity to water contamination than diaphragm valves.

Diaphragm auto bypassvalves (pressure differential controllers) maintain pressure with high accuracy and have a spring and diaphragm in their design, sometimes with an impulse tube, depending on the modification.
