The pressure relief controller is a support regulator that maintains the pressure in the pipeline ahead of it in the direction of the working medium flow and only opens when the pressure exceeds the setpoint. If the pressure before the regulator is less than the required value, it will close completely and start opening only when the pressure reaches the set value (like a safety valve).
Setting the support regulator is carried out after filling the pipeline with water during commissioning of the entire unit. If the set pressure value is known precisely and the position on the adjustment scale is clearly defined, the pressure regulator can be adjusted until the pipeline is filled with water.
The pressure regulator is adjusted by rotating the adjustment screw of the compressed spring until the pressure in the impulse pick-up location is aligned with the specified value. Rotating the adjustment screw smoothly changes the set pressure, and each number of turns corresponds to a certain pressure within the supported range.
The pressure regulator is tested by changing the water flow rate passing through it. The water flow rate is changed by any regulating or shut-off valve installed on the same pipeline, while paying attention to the speed of response and the accuracy of pressure maintenance by the regulator. The permissible error of spring calibration at the boundary values of the adjustment range is 10%.
To facilitate pressure adjustment and monitoring of the regulator's operation at the impulse pick-up location, it is necessary to install a pressure gauge. If the pressure regulator's design includes a pressure gauge, a control gauge is not required to be installed.
