The filtering element in mechanical filters is a mesh or perforated steel chamber, which is placed at an angle to the flow axis and blocks the cross-sectional passage. As the flow passes through the filter, solid particles in the stream are trapped by the mesh chamber and remain in it.
Depending on the size of the mechanical inclusions, a filtering element with different hole diameters from 0.3 to 2.0mm is used. Contaminant particles larger than the hole diameter cannot pass through the mesh, so they settle in the filter chamber.
Depending on the degree of water contamination by mechanical inclusions, the mesh chamber of the Y Strainer should be periodically cleaned. The clogging of the filter is indicated by the readings of pressure gauges installed before and after it - pressure losses on a clogged filter significantly increase compared to those on a clean filter.
