Maintenance and repair of balancing valves

Service of balancing valve is carried out as needed, but at least once a year, the following operations should be performed if they do not contradict the valve's operating instructions:

  • Lubricate threaded connections and the threaded stem.
  • Clean from dust, dirt, and corrosion.
  • In valves with a gland-sealed stem, tighten the gland and replace it if necessary.
  • To prevent the valve from sticking, move the valve from the fully open to the fully closed position several times.

The main cause of failure of a balancing valve is sticking of the valve or clogging of the flow path with solid particles. In this case, repair of the balancing valve will consist of dismantling it from the pipeline and cleaning the flow path. If there is leakage on the stem, tighten the gland and replace it if necessary. If the cause of the failure is different, original spare parts will be required for valve repair.
