Mechanical filters for water purification need to be periodically cleaned of accumulated dirt. In some models of Y Strainers, the chamber can be cleaned by opening the flush valve, but most models require draining the section where the filter is installed and removing the mesh.
The degree of contamination of the Y Strainer is determined by the readings of pressure gauges installed before and after it. If the pressure losses exceed the calculated values, the filter needs to be cleaned. Therefore, a label with the calculated and permissible pressure loss values should be placed near or on the filter.
Threaded connections of filters with flanged connections to the pipeline should be periodically cleaned of rust and lubricated.
