Control valve maintenance

Control valve maintenance

Maintenance of the regulating valve should be performed as necessary, but at least once a year, the following operations should be carried out, provided they do not contradict the valve's operating instructions:

  • Grease the threaded connections and stem.
  • Clean from dust, dirt and rust.
  • In regulators with a seal gland, tighten the seal gland and replace if necessary.
  • Manually run the regulating valve disc from the fully open to the fully closed position to prevent sticking of the disc.

The main cause of failure of the regulating valve is sticking of the disc or clogging of the flow passage with solid particles. In this case, the repair of the regulating valve will consist of dismantling from the pipeline and cleaning the flow passage. If there is a leak along the stem, tighten the seal gland and replace it if necessary.
