Where is a Y Strainer installed

The placement of Y Strainers in engineering system diagrams is regulated by normative documents and installation instructions for pipeline fittings that require protection from mechanical inclusions in the working medium.

A mechanical filter is installed:

• Before electric and gas water heater boilers.
• Before flow control valves of heat flow regulators.
• Before pressure and differential pressure regulators of any design.
• Before plate heat exchangers and some types of shell-and-tube heat exchangers.
• Before mechanical flow meters, and some types of ultrasonic and induction flow meters.
• Before circulation and booster pumps, it is especially important to install a Y Strainer before pumps with a wet rotor.

A Y Strainer does not need to be installed if another filter is already installed on this pipeline within 10 meters.
