Recommendations for the use of Y Strainers
The placement of Y Strainers in engineering system schemes is regulated by regulatory documents and installation instructions for pipeline fittings that require protection from mechanical inclusions in the working medium.
The mechanical filter is installed:
- Before electric and gas water heaters.
- Before control valves of heat flow regulators.
- Before pressure regulators and differential pressure regulators of any design.
- Before plate heat exchangers and some types of shell and tube heat exchangers.
- Before mechanical flow meters, some types of ultrasonic and induction flow meters.
- Before circulation and booster pumps, particularly important is the installation of a Y Strainer before pumps with a wet rotor.
A Y Strainer may not be installed if another filter is already installed on the same pipeline within 10 meters.
