The filtering element in mechanical filters is a mesh or perforated steel vessel located at an angle to the flow axis and covering the flow cross-section. When passing through the filter, solid particles in the stream are retained by the mesh vessel and remain in it.

Depending on the size of mechanical inclusions, a filtering element with different hole diameters from 0.3 to 2.0 mm is used. Polluting particles whose size is larger than the diameter of the mesh cells cannot pass through and settle in the filter chamber.

Depending on the degree of water pollution with mechanical inclusions, the mesh filter vessel should be periodically cleaned. The clogging of the filter is indicated by the readings of the gauges installed before and after it - the pressure drop on the clogged filter significantly increases compared to the pressure drop on the clean one.
