Shut-off valve is a pipeline fitting designed for flow control. The valve's closing element is a disc, hinged on a threaded stem, which gradually moves and closes the passageway.
Shut-off valves are used in water and steam pipelines with a wide range of operating pressures and temperatures. All the valves that you will find in our catalog can be used for shutting off the flow of water. Check with suppliers for possible use on pipelines with other working environments.
Prior to the advent of ball valves, threaded shut-off valves were widely used in building heating and water supply systems on pipelines with nominal bore diameter less than 50mm. The reasons for the displacement of these valves were the need for periodic maintenance, frequent sealing violations, and disc fractures, which ball valves do not have.
Modern shut-off valves have a more reliable design and do not require technical maintenance, but they are unlikely to regain their former positions in building engineering systems. However, valves are still used in steam pipelines and in technological installations with high requirements for reliability and tightness of flow control.
Despite the fact that throttling pressure with a shut-off valve is prohibited by regulations, some valve suppliers do not exclude their use with an intermediate disc position to reduce pressure.
